Daily Madden: The Case Of The 9-0 Underdogs
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL's only undefeated team at 9-0, are eight and a half point underdogs to the Denver Broncos this weekend. Have other 9-0 NFL teams been forecast to lose by more than a touchdown?
"How many of them had to go into Denver and play Peyton Manning? That's going to be the problem," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "When you play Peyton Manning -- and I kind of feel the same way about Tom Brady and maybe the same way about Drew Brees -- even if you have good defense, he's going to get 28 points. So you have to go in and have to play good defense... But in addition to that you have to score over 30 points. And I think that's the part Kansas City is going to have a tough time with... (The Chiefs) do have a good defense. They do have a good pass rush, they have a good running game... But they would have to in one 60 minute football game score more than 30 points."
Madden said the Chiefs will need strong special teams play and turnovers.
"Things like that can happen," John said. "Try to get the game into the fourth quarter, where it's close into the fourth quarter... And then try to stop them and make a run."
The Warriors beat the Pistons 115-95 in front of the 41st consecutive sellout crowd at the Oracle Arena Tuesday.
"The Warriors look like they're for real this year," Madden said. "It used to be you had to root for them and hope they win. Now you get to the point where you kind of expect them to win." (6:36)
