Daily Madden: The Brees Passing Record
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Dan Marino's season passing record in a win over the Falcons Monday night. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew it's just one more sign that this is the year of the quarterback.
"We're seeing three of the greatest quarterbacks - passing quarterbacks - that have ever played the game playing right now," Madden said, noting the spectacular seasons of Brees, Patriots QB Tom Brady and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. "What do they have in common? One is accuracy, and two is great balance. They're always on balance."
What does Marino think about Brees breaking the 27-year old record?
"Knowing Dan Marino, it's not easy," Madden said. "If you're competitive when you're ten, you're probably going to be very competitive when you're 20 and when you're 30 and when you're 50. You're still going to have the same competitiveness in your mind. So just knowing that and knowing Dan Marino... deep down, he'd rather not see anyone do it."
With one regular season game to go, Brady is 187 yards shy of the old record. "This could be a double-dip here," Madden said. (8:45)
