Daily Madden: The Beauty Of Game 6
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - As a friend of Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, John Madden was routing for St. Louis to win Thursday night and send the World Series to a seventh game.
"To be honest with you, when Texas got those two home runs, I gave up," Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "I thought, 'oh shoot, that's the end, but it was still good for Tony, he had a good year and all that stuff.'"
Then the Cardinals came back from the edge twice to win 10-9 with a walk-off home run in the 11th inning.
"That was great for baseball," Madden said. "It was great for television. It was great for the teams involved... Good games I think are what it's all about. Whether (the teams) are from New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago or St. Louis, if it's good baseball, then that's what people want to see."
In NFL action this weekend, the 49ers face the 3-3 Cleveland Browns.
"To be honest, they're probably the worst 3-3 team in the NFL," John said.
But he said that doesn't mean the game isn't a challenge for the 5-1 49ers.
"You can't go and beat a Philadelphia, go and beat an undefeated Detroit, two good teams, and then lose to a team that's not so good. That's part of your maturation is handling those things." (8:00)
