Daily Madden: The Baffling Decision Against Pacquiao
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In a split decision that stunned boxing fans, Timothy Bradley defeated Manny Pacquiao in Saturday's WBO welterweight title fight in Las Vegas.
"I don't think that anyone including Timothy Bradley ... I don't think that anyone including him thought that he won," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "It was one of the worst decisions that I've ever seen," said Madden.
"I haven't talked to anyone who watched the fight that thought Bradley won," said Madden, adding that he doesn't think the fight was fixed. "It was just a bad decision," Madden said.
Madden also offered one theory on how the decision went Bradley's way. "As fighters get older, what they tend to do is take off parts of a round," Madden said. "They hold off and tend not to fight the first two (minutes of three minute round), and then fight the last minute of the round, and then steal the round. Maybe Pacquaio was doing a little of that.
"When a decision like this comes out, that's the only thing I can think of that they could have seen."
