Daily Madden: The 49ers-Seahawks Rivalry Has Legs
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The 49ers-Seahawks divisional rivalry is shaping up to be one of the best in the NFL.
"Seattle became a pretty good team and the 49ers became a good team - those are the ingredients," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "If you have two bad teams, not many people care. If you have one bad team and one good team, not many people care. You need both teams to be pretty good."
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had faced off against each other in Pac-12 play when Stanford played USC.
"I think Pete Carroll is one type of guy and Jim Harbaugh is another type of guy and they both had winning programs in college," Madden said. "Then they bring that into the NFL, so there's a little carryover coming in. And then they both get young quarterbacks that come through They both have good stories and good teams. I think it's one of those things that is going to have some legs. I think it's a rivalry that is really going to last."
In other sports news, the British Open is underway at Muirfield in Scotland.
"That rough is something," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "In the area where I live, in the Pleasanton-Livermore area, if you had weeds like that, you'd get a weed abatement citation. You have to cut that stuff down, and you have to cut it down right now." (7:00)
