Daily Madden: The 49er Offensive Line Gets Its Due
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden has high praise for the 49ers offensive line.
"Right now they're one of the best or the best offensive line in football," Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "They played well in the Super Bowl. The other side played well though too... The Ravens offensive line did a great job. Here in San Francisco, you say the 49ers didn't have much of pass rush, they didn't put much pressure on Flacco. But when you look at it from the other side, the Ravens offensive line did a great job."
Madden was asked how often the offensive line is the most important part of a team.
"Every time they have the ball," Madden said. "If they don't do their job, it doesn't make any difference what the quarterbacks do. They're not going to complete passes, the receivers aren't going to catch balls, the running backs aren't going to make yardage."
Madden said he was pleased to see two offensive linemen, Larry Allen and Jonathan Ogden, voted into the Hall of Fame.
"As an old line guy, I thought 'they're not going to put these guys in,'" Madden said. "They don't have stats. They don't have numbers. They don't have anything to support them other than they were the best players. They were two of the best players that every played their position, and they're Hall of Fame players... For the group that voted, they did a heck of a job in getting both of those guys in because they both deserved it." (8:40)
