Daily Madden: Te'o Under The Microscope At NFL Combine
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o ran what some scouts say was a disappointing 4.82 in the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine this week.
"That poor guy, they're just slicing him up every way you could be sliced up," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. Te'o has been the focus of attention after his online romance was exposed as a hoax last month.
"I just get the feeling that it's media, and more media than ever, and that they're just trying to embarrass him... The kid is pretty uncomfortable and it looks like they're trying to make him as uncomfortable as possible."
Madden said part of the problem is the nature of the combine.
"You're trying to make up news and stuff on an event that's really not an event that should go on for two weeks. There's not enough meat on that bone if you know what I mean... (Te'o) played four years at Notre Dame and they have plenty of tape on him, and they should know him. I heard some guy say that (because) he ran 4.8 he went down one spot in the draft, (and) had he run 4.7 he would have been drafted (higher.) And I said 'holy moly, how do you play four years and it gets down to one 40 yard dash?'" (8:55)
