Daily Madden: Team Confidence Is Key To Warriors Success
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Warriors' last second victory over the defending NBA champion Miami Heat Wednesday night gave Golden State a five game road winning streak and a 15-7 record.
"I think the secret to it is it's a team," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "Somehow I think they've taken the individual out and made a team thing out of it, and probably in any sport that makes sense."
Madden said confidence is playing a big part in their early success.
"Which comes first? Do you have the confidence and then you go out and win, or do you go out and win and get the confidence. I think the latter," Madden said.
The Warriors are playing without center Andrew Bogut, who is out indefinitely with an ankle injury.
"I think that was a point when maybe everyone came together and said 'shoot, we're going to do this for awhile without him,' and accepted it and took the challenge and ran with it."
Madden said the Warriors still have a lot to prove.
"It still doesn't mean anything," Madden said. "What you do early in the season -- you really don't win any championships, but you put yourself in a position to make a run at the end of the season to be peaking and go into the playoffs and win from there."
The 49ers face a big challenge in Foxborough Sunday when they meet the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady.
"(The 49ers) do have a good defense, but you know Brady scores points on good defenses too," Madden said. "That puts pressure on the (49ers) offense because you can't go in and say 'we're going to play good defense, special teams (and) keep the score down.' You have to go in kind of with a mindset that this is going to be a shootout." (7:45)
