Daily Madden: Struggling Lincecum Lands All-Star Slot
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Tim Lincecum is one of four pitchers from the World Series Champion Giants selected for the 2011 All-Star game, but Florida Marlins manager Jack McKeon said the Giants' ace isn't having an All-Star season and doesn't belong on the squad.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy is also the All-Star manager and selected Lincecum for the team. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew that Linceum is deserving. "They always say it's for the fans... That's who they want to see. You don't want to go and see someone who won three or four games in the last month over Tim Lincecum.
"I know the argument is, is it for this year or for what you did last year. But part of it is being an All-Star too," said Madden. "If you have an All-Star game, to me there's no way that Tim Lincecum doesn't belong in it."
Meanwhile, San Jose's Joey Chestnut defended his title and won the annual hot dog eating contest, downing 62 in ten minutes. Is eating a sport? John doesn't think so. "To me it's not even eating, it's stuffing. They're just stuffing down their throats. I'm not a fan of that." (8:55)
