Daily Madden: Sideline Hazards
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Penn State coach Joe Paterno is out of the hospital and expected back on the field this week after he was run over on the sideline by a wide receiver during practice Sunday.
"It is dangerous," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "You have to kind of have your head in a swivel and know where the players are and where the play is."
It's not only dangerous for the coaches, but the players standing on the sideline as well.
"What they try to do is back them up... Every team has a back-up coach, and all he does is walk up and down telling people to back-up."
There's more talk in Los Angeles about the possibility of a downtown football stadium and a return of an NFL team to LA.
"Haven't we gone through this for about 40 years?" Madden asked. "We all agree on one thing, that when there is a stadium there, there's going to be a team there... I really think when they get a stadium there, they're going to get two teams."
The problem, John said, is that so far Los Angeles stadium plans have gone nowhere. (7:55)
