Daily Madden: Sharks Overcome Playoff Demons, Negative Media
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The San Jose Sharks' nail-biting Game 7 win over the Detroit Red Wings had John Madden remarking on how the team overcame a mountain of negative press and the ramifications of what another epic playoff meltdown might have meant for the franchise.
"The stuff that they were taking, and all that 'choking' stuff ... it was just kind of doomsday. And they were really gonna get grilled if they didn't win that game last night," said Madden Friday during his daily chat with the KCBS morning crew.
Sharks captain Joe Thornton brushed off all the media talk over how San Jose living up to the 'chokers' label, saying he doesn't listen to or read the negative press. Madden pointed out that even though players may say they don't read sports page criticisms or listen to sports talk, they will know about it. "You can't avoid it," said Madden. "Even though you don't read it, you're going to hear about it. You'll hear about it from other people, from friends, from other reporters, from radio shows ... they do know about it."
