Daily Madden: Rookie QBs Making Their Mark
(KCBS) - Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck led last season's last place Indianapolis Colts to a 35-33 victory over the Detroit Lions Sunday. The Colts are 8-4 and in playoff contention. "Amazing," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "Last year I was talking about what the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh did was the amazing story in the NFL. This year it's Andrew Luck."
Rookie QB Robert Griffin III is also doing well with the Washington Redskins. "If you go back in the history of the NFL, whether it's just ten years, fifteen, twenty, whatever, quarterbacks were never prepared to start in the NFL the way they are now," Madden said. "High school football, college football and pro football are basically all playing the same game now."
The Raiders lost a close game to the Cleveland Browns in Oakland Sunday. "It was a lousy close," Madden said. "They scored seven points with one second left to go... They had opportunities in the game and they didn't take advantage of them."
The Raiders are now 3-9, having lost their last five games. "You would just hope that things would improve," John said. "This isn't a playoff team and I don't know that there were a lot of playoff-type expectations. But as the season goes on you'd like to see improvement, and that's not there."
