Daily Madden: Raiders Missed Pryor At QB
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Playing with backup quarterback Matt Flynn Sunday afternoon, the Raiders lost at home to the Washington Redskins 24-14. The status of first string QB Terrelle Pryor was uncertain all week as he recovered from a concussion.
"You can't play in this league without a quarterback," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "(Pryor) doesn't really practice all week or get ready to play. Had he played he would have had a difficult time... If he doesn't play and Matt Flynn plays, maybe it's a more difficult time."
Flynn fumbled twice, threw an interception and was sacked seven times.
In a losing effort to the Patriots Sunday night, Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez caught 12 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
"He was something last night," Madden said. "Atlanta has good wide receivers so you pay attention to them and then you let Gonzales kind of go. Gonzales was eating them up, so (Patriots coach Bill Belichick) changed. But Gonzales was still able to make plays even when they were (trying) to take him away."
The Patriots held off a late Atlanta charge to win 30-23 and stay undefeated.
"These young (New England) wide receivers, they're getting better each week," Madden said. "The first couple of games, they weren't sure where they were going and (quarterback Tom) Brady wasn't sure where they were going. And now last night, they looked like two very good players." (6:15)
