Daily Madden: Raiders Deliver Too Many Gifts
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Raiders turned the ball over seven times and let the Kansas City Chiefs run wild in losing 56-31 in Oakland Sunday.
"They kind of brought it upon themselves," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Seven turnovers -- that will start that type of thing for you. And on defense, poor tackling."
The 56 points were the most given up in Raiders history. Madden said the Raiders failed to adjust to the screen passes the Chiefs were using to counter Oakland's pass rush and blitzes.
"You've got to rally around that (to hold them to a) three or four yard gain, and (the Chiefs) were making touchdowns out of them."
In an earlier game Sunday, the 49ers beat the Buccaneers in Tampa 33-14.
"If you're a better team, and if you're a team that was in the Super Bowl a year ago, and you have aspirations to go back to the Super Bowl again, you don't get into traps," the former coach said. "The 49ers were so much better than Tampa, and all you have to do is go back there and play that way. And that's exactly what they did." (7:00)
