Daily Madden: Raiders, Brady Impressive In Victories
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Oakland Raiders' 23-20 victory in Denver Monday night was their first opening game win in eight years, a stat not lost on former Raiders head coach John Madden during his daily chat with the KCBS morning crew.
"It was a step towards getting the Raiders back to where they should be," Madden said. "When you're (Raiders coach) Hue Jackson and you're kind of starting your own program and trying to change the culture and stuff, those are the kinds of steps that you need."
The Raiders were impressive in all phases of the game, except in avoiding penalties. "That to me is an area that should be easy to improve," Madden said. "It's something you have to watch all the time and you have to practice that."
Also impressive was Patriots quarterback and San Mateo native Tom Brady, who threw for 517 yards and four touchdowns in Monday night's victory over the Miami Dolphins. "He has so much of that Joe Montana in him," Madden said. "They all try and do the same thing, but Joe Montana just made it look so much easier. And it's the same thing with Tom Brady." (7:40)
