Daily Madden: QBs Shine At Pebble Beach
PEBBLE BEACH (KCBS) - Pro golfers and celebrities are playing practice rounds at Pebble Beach today in preparation for Thursday's start of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
Among those competing are star football and baseball players.
"Most quarterbacks can (play golf well)," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "And they can without a lot of practice... If you're a quarterback, the chances of you being a good player are pretty good. And the chances of you being a pretty good player and then losing it during the season? That usually doesn't happen."
NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith and Tom Brady are among those playing in the AT&T.
Pitchers tend to be good golfers as well.
"The other guys you can throw in there are kickers," Madden said. "The stroke, the rhythm -- that whole thing that goes with playing golf they have in kicking."
Madden will be on the course, but without his golf clubs. "We're going to go over there and ride around in the golf cart," Madden said. "We go down to the maintenance shed. They have the best chili you can get anywhere." (6:50)
