Daily Madden: Preparing For The Roar Of Lions Fans
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh set up a new sound system and cranked up the music on the practice field Wednesday as the team prepared to face the roar of the crowd when they play the 5-0 Detroit Lions at the enclosed Ford Field in Detroit Sunday. "You've got to be ready to play without being able to talk and verbally communicate," Harbaugh said.
John Madden told the KCBS morning crew Thursday he understands the strategy, but didn't like it as a coach. "I hated it, I was never for that," Madden said. "(But) you do have to learn how to communicate without using words ... With all this three and four and five receivers, and guys spread all over, and shotgun and stuff, communication is a big thing."
Meanwhile, the Raiders have traded for Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry, a top pick in the 2009 draft who wasn't starting in Seattle. Madden said he likes the move. "You wonder how a guy could be one of the top players taken in the draft, taken fourth, and then not be a starter. If the price isn't too heavy, you kind of like to see for yourself."
The Raiders gave up a seventh-round pick in 2012 and a fourth or fifth-round conditional pick in 2013, based on how much Curry plays in Oakland. (8:30)
