Daily Madden: Players Complaining About Their Madden NFL Ratings
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Madden NFL 13, the latest edition of John Madden's popular video game, was released this week. It didn't take long for NFL players to complain about their ratings.
"I still get it like I used to when I was a broadcaster," Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "One of the (Lions) wide receivers came up and sat with me at lunch (at training camp) and talked for about an hour about his rating - it was Titus Young - that he was (rated) too slow."
"They just say 'You didn't give me enough juice,'" he continued. "To make the game play, you have to have some of these guys lower and some higher. You can't have them all at the highest (number.)"
Madden said he told the 2nd year player that he had plenty of time to improve his ratings on the game. He said he's happy to listen to complaints, but game makers have to leave room for improvement.
"You have to give these guys a soft landing. You can't just run them into the concrete," he said.
Young's teammate and fellow wide receiver, Calvin Johnson, is featured on this year's cover.
Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin said players who say they don't care about their Madden rating are lying.
"Even if they say they don't care," Madden said, "someone else is going to care and give them heck about it." (7:50)
