Daily Madden: Peyton Manning's Big Show
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning threw seven touchdown passes in Denver's 49-27 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens Thursday night. "A year ago you weren't sure if he was healthy or he could take a hit," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
Manning returned last year after a serious injury the season before. "It took him awhile to get back to normal," Madden said. "He even admitted that he didn't really get back where he felt comfortable until about midway through the season. But if you're an opponent, the last thing you want is to have a comfortable Peyton Manning... When he's comfortable, he's going to eat you up."
The Broncos were fortunate they didn't need another touchdown after linebacker Danny Trevathan fumbled his interception return while showboating short of the goal line. "That's something you just don't do," Madden said. "I know you want to show off... but doggone wait to you get to the end zone before you show off."
Madden said the incident will help the team in the long run. "You cannot only make an example of him but you can make an example to the whole team... No one on that Broncos team I would bet will ever do anything like that at all this year."
