Daily Madden: Packers Will Struggle Without Rodgers
(KCBS) - The Green Bay Packers lost the game and their quarterback Monday night.
"Aaron Rodgers is out, Seneca Wallace is in, and you see it's a totally different game," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
Wallace replaced Rodgers after he suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter. The Bears beat the Packers 27-20, and Madden expects the Packers to continue to struggle without Rodgers, who could be out several weeks.
"They were kind of borderline defense," Madden said. "Clay Matthews was a dominant player for them. And they lost Clay Matthews, and then they became a below average defense... (If you have a) good defense, good kicking game, good running game, you get by with another quarterback. Believe me, their defense isn't good enough to do that."
John said Wallace will be hard pressed to guide the offense as well as Rodgers.
"If you're paying your quarterback a lot of money like Aaron Rodgers, you can't pay your back-up a lot of money. It's kind of a combination of free agency -- you really can't keep him, and salary cap -- you can't pay these guys top money. So you have to live with next man up. And the next man up isn't as good as the next man up used to be." (6:00)
