Daily Madden: Opponents Have Hands Full With Eagles Offense
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's quick action, no-huddle offense kept the Washington Redskins off-balance in Philly's 33-27 victory Monday night. "That was really fun to watch," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"As an ex-coach I always watch to see what they're doing, to see what I would do against it," said Madden. "It really puts a lot of pressure on the defense in that they don't let you get a good look at their offense before the snap.
"Philadelphia gives you such short time to get your defense set, to make your adjustments, to go through a thought process. That would really be tough to play," said Madden.
So how will opponents try to stop the Eagles' offense? "You have to get penetration, and hope on one of those runs or passes or one of those things, you can get a sack, get them in long yardage. This stuff doesn't work in long yardage," said Madden. "First down is a big down because it's tougher for them to do what they're doing on either second or third and long."
Madden said all NFL coaches are watching Kelly's offense closely. "The influence of what he's doing -- I think every team in the league is going to take some of that, (although) they're not going to copy the whole offense or become a Chip Kelly league."
