Daily Madden: No One Should Worry If 49ers 'Evaluated' Peyton Manning
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh doesn't need to go of his way to deny the team was courting Peyton Manning as a free agent.
"One of your jobs when you're in an organization is to make your team better, and I think you have to look into any opportunity you have to make your team better," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "With Peyton Manning out there available, I think anyone that didn't look into it, other than a handful of teams, wouldn't be doing their job."
Harbaugh has freely admitted to "evaluating" Manning before he signed with the Broncos, and before the 49ers inked a three-year, $24 million deal with Alex Smith.
Madden pointed out Harbaugh has to tread a fine line since Manning ultimately signed with the Broncos, and later admitted he was very tempted to sign with San Francisco.
