Daily Madden: No End In Sight In NFL Dispute
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The dispute between the NFL and the players ramped up Monday with the NFL asking a federal judge Monday to keep a lockout in place. During his daily chat with KCBS Radio anchors, John Madden said he sees little hope for a settlement anytime soon, " It's been going on a long time, and it's going to continue on for a while, so if you were banging your head into the wall you'll be banging it way too long," said Madden.
Madden said the upcoming draft and the scheduled start of training camp are deadlines that both should work to avoid. The big deadline, said Madden, is the start of regular season play when "real money" is at stake for both sides.
The labor dispute could mean a big disadvantage will be for teams like the 49ers and Raiders who have new coaches and systems to put in place and won't be able to work until an agreement is reached.
Meanwhile, the Madden NFL 12 video game is set to launch whether the players are on the field or not. This year, fans will use a bracket system for picking the player who will grace the cover. "It's kind of a popularity contest for the players," said Madden. "Every player I've ever talked to has always wanted to be on the cover." Fans can vote for who they think should be on the cover by going to Facebook.
Finally, John praised the performance of Steelers receiver Hines Ward on "Dancing With the Stars" and insists he enjoys the performances and doesn't watch for the skimpy outfits.
