Daily Madden: Niners Face Another Road Test On Short Rest
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - As they prepare for their game against the Ravens in Baltimore Thursday night, the San Francisco 49ers are struggling not only with a short week but a long flight.
"That's about as tough as it can get," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew, recalling when his Raiders team had to travel to Detroit to play an early Thanksgiving Day game on three days rest. "It was ridiculous... We scored the first touchdown, 7-0, 14-0, maybe even 21. And then we just ran out of gas in the second half."
Raiders coach Hue Jackson complained officials are throwing too many flags at his team. But Madden said a lot of their penalties could be eliminated with more attention to detail.
"I think we assume a lot of penalties means you're a dirty team," Madden said. "But I watch the Raiders and they have a lot of like offsides, illegal motion, those types of things. And those things can be cleaned up... If you eliminate all that stuff... I think they could easily cut their penalties in half." (9:00)
