Daily Madden: Murray's Emotional Victory At Wimbledon
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Andy Murray of Great Britain ended 77 years of British frustration by winning the Wimbledon singles' title Sunday.
"It was great," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. The last British player to win was Fred Perry in 1936.
"I don't really watch a lot of tennis, but I was rooting for him the whole time just because of that -- I mean that whole Cubs thing, the Red Sox thing, you know all those types of things that make it a true underdog (situation.)"
Murray beat number one seed Novak Djokovic, who was gracious in defeat in the post-match interview.
"To go through what they go through, and how hard they play, and how they tired they have to be and how emotional it has to be, and then for them to make sense with anything (is amazing,)" Madden said.
In other news, Jockey Russell Baze rode to win number 12,000 at the Alameda County Fair track in Pleasanton Sunday.
"Why wouldn't you always bet on Russell Baze?," Madden asked. "He is the definition of a winner." (8:25)
