Daily Madden: Money Can't Always Buy A Team
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Mets 5-4, giving them wins in 40 of 48 games, a streak that raise the question, can you buy a team?
It's a strategy that's successful sometimes, but even teams like the Yankees that have done it forever maintain a good core of players.
"They had Rivera, and they had Jeter, and they had Pettitte," John Madden told the KCBS Morning Crew. "And they had those guys for a long time."

Using money to build a team is probably not going to be a big trend, given the track record in the NFL with the Redskins and the Cowboys, Madden said.
But the high cost of pre-season games is something that's probably not going to change, despite some recent complaints from fans that prompted Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay to tweet that full-season tickets are undervalued as much as 400 percent.
Coach Madden disagrees, but sees little chance the fans will get any relief because of revenue sharing agreements.
"I've always felt that they could lower those prices," he said, to give hometown fans who cannot afford the regular season a chance to see their team.
