Daily Madden: McIlroy's Fun Final Round
SAN FRANCICO (KCBS) - Rory McIlroy's 16-under wire to wire victory in the U.S. Open is still the talk of golfers around the world.
"That was just amazing watching that kid... That swing that he has is almost perfect... and it's the same every time," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "As the round went on and it became apparent that no one was going to be able to catch him, then he really started to enjoy it... There are not many final days of U.S. Opens that golfers have fun out there while they're playing."
Next year's U.S. Open will be held at San Francisco's Olympic Club, and no one expects as many sub par rounds as there were at the Congressional course last weekend.
"You have to have a course that presents a lot of problems, and I think Olympic is that course," Madden said. "I think next year at Olympic we'll probably go back to player against player and player against par."
One of baseball's best players, Cardinals infielder Albert Pujols, is out for six weeks with a broken wrist after a collision at first base.
"Just playing the sport, whatever that sport may be, there's always danger of an injury," Madden said. "That was a relatively routine play... You can't look who to blame... Freak stuff happens." (7:50)
