Daily Madden: Matt Cain's Amazing Performance
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Matt Cain pitched nine two-hit innings in a classic pitchers duel with the Phillies' Cliff Lee before the Giants won the game in the bottom of the 11th.
"It's really not fair for Matt Cain to pitch a game like that and not get credit for the win," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "It just shows how interesting it is when you see two good teams...You knew you were watching something special last night, but you were also watching two of the best teams in the game."
The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly told former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck that he'll be their pick as the number one choice in the draft next week. Madden said there's some strategy involved in letting Luck know ahead of time.
"Once you decide that you're going to do that, then you can start to negotiate," John said. "That's one advantage that you have to get your guy early." Madden said it's possible but unlikely that Luck won't end up with the Colts. "I don't think it will happen, but it could be one of those John Elway deals or an Eli Manning deal, where they draft him and he says he's not going to play there. I haven't heard anything like that but if you say is there any scenario, that would be the scenario." (8:35)
