Daily Madden: Little Leaguers On The Big Stage
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Petaluma Nationals won their first game in the Little League World Series televised nationally from Williamsport, Pennsylvania Thursday.
"I haven't really come to grips with that yet," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "Do you really like that or do you really not like that so much, where they take them up so high that they have them on national television and all that stuff...Unrealistic expectations is part of it, too much pressure on a young person could be part of it. I don't know. I could be argued into that or I could be argued out of that." Regardless, John said he's routing for the Nationals.
"If Petaluma continues on through this, I will eventually jump on the bandwagon, and then eventually I will say 'I'm from where they are from.'"
The Raiders play the Cardinals in Arizona Friday night and the 49ers face the Texans in Houston Saturday in their second pre-season games.
"You just want to get better," John said.
"You want to see (Raiders receiver) Jacoby Ford catch those balls instead of dropping them. You'd like to see some young players come on and be strong. It's the same thing with the 49ers, that you'd like to see them (move) one week more toward consistency."
NFL officials reportedly met with Oakland's mayor and a city councilman about the prospects for a new stadium for the Raiders. "There has to be a new stadium," John said. "I hope (it will be built in) Oakland. My heart says Oakland, and even my gut says Oakland." (8:15)
