Daily Madden: KC Sits On Playoff Berth
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- With a playoff spot secured, Kansas City coach Andy Reid sat 20 of 22 starters in Sunday's game against the Chargers. "I'm against that," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"If you say, 'I don't want to play these guys because I don't want to get them hurt in this game before the playoffs,' now what do you say to the guys who play?... That would be a problem for me." The Chargers edged the Chiefs 27-24, sending San Diego to the playoffs and eliminating the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Stanford's David Shaw is an attractive candidate for NFL owners looking to hire a new coach. But it's widely assumed he wouldn't leave The Farm. "You don't know that," Madden said. "He has to say that he's not going to go because he has to recruit. You can't say 'I got a foot in the bucket, I've got a foot out the door'... Some day David Shaw is going to be in the NFL when the right situation comes." (7:50)
