Daily Madden: Kaepernick To Davis Trumps Strong Arizona Defense
SAN FRANCISCO (KBCS) - A fourth quarter 89 yard touchdown march sealed the 49ers' 32-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday.
"That was one that they kind of needed," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "They were getting some things done but it was kind of sporadic here and there. Their defense was playing real well. Arizona's a good defense, so nothing was going to be easy."
49ers tight end Vernon Davis caught eight passes from Colin Kaepernick for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
"(The defense) is always going to give you something," John said. "They're going to take away something strong, but in doing that they're going to give you something also. So they gave them Vernon Davis man to man."
In other NFL news, with five seconds left in the game, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw a 17 yard touchdown pass to rookie free agent Kenbrell Thompkins as New England topped previously unbeaten New Orleans 30-27 Sunday night.
"It wasn't the prevent defense that got them. I think it was the prevent offense," Madden said, noting the Saints appeared to have the victory at hand. "They stopped (the Patriots), and then all their offense had to do was get a first down or two, and they couldn't do it. And then they gave Brady too many chances." (7:50)
