Daily Madden: Kaepernick Looks Entrenched At QB Spot
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - It wasn't until Colin Kaepernick's 50-yard TD run in the fourth quarter that San Francisco fans felt comfortable the 49ers would beat the Miami Dolphins at Candlestick Sunday. The final score was 27-13.
"I think that move is here to stay," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew, referring to coach Jim Harbaugh's move to replace former starting quarterback Alex Smith with Kaepernick last month. "I just get the feeling that a lot of people are looking for an opportunity to put Alex Smith back in there. And that's the thing you don't want to do. I think that when you make that move, you hope you can stay with it because you don't want that thing going back and forth each week. And then the deeper you get into the season and the closer you get to the playoffs, you sure as heck don't want it."
Madden said the impressive play of rookie quarterbacks Robert Griffin III of the Redskins and Andrew Luck of the Colts is overshadowing the work of another rookie QB. Seattle's Russell Wilson led the Seahawks to a 58-0 rout of the Arizona Cardinals and an 8-5 record.
"He's an amazing guy, he really is," Madden said. "When they first started him, I thought that was a gutsy move. He proved Pete Carroll and his staff, he proved them right. They're a tough out anywhere, but they're really tough up there in Seattle." (8:30)
