Daily Madden: Kaepernick A Solid No. 2 For 49ers
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick went 12 of 18 for 158 yards in the first half to lead the 49ers to a 35-3 pre-season win over the Chargers Thursday night. "You watch these guys and some of them look just like they're in over their head," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "But Kaepernick looked comfortable, he looked like he belonged there, he looked like nothing was too big for him.
"San Diego was playing a pretty good defense against him, I mean it wasn't a bunch of guys who are going to get cut... It just gives you a certain confidence if anything happens to Alex Smith."
The Raiders finished the pre-season 1-3 after gaining only 101 yards on offense and losing 21-3 to the Seahawks Thursday night. "They just look like they have trouble moving the ball, you know, and getting first downs and stuff like that," Madden said. "I would be concerned, but I was one of those who would be an alarmist anyway and would always be concerned about something.
"I know the fourth pre-season game doesn't mean what it used to, but I like to be looking pretty good going into the first week of the regular season."
