Daily Madden: Kaep To Boldin Makes Mess Of Packers Strategy
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The San Francisco 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers 34-28 Sunday based largely on a strong passing game. "Green Bay had the whole off-season to work on what they were going to do against the 49ers," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"And I think it was based on what happened to them a year ago. And I think that they said that they weren't going to let Kaepernick run with the ball, they weren't going to let him run that option stuff, they weren't going to let Gore run." said Madden. "And if the 49ers were going to beat them, they were going to beat them with Kaepernick sitting in throwing from the pocket. And he did it."
He did it mostly with new 49er receiver Anquan Boldin. "He played hard, he's a tough guy, really strong hands, he's a good blocker," John said. "What did he catch, 13 balls? He does a lot of things for a team's offense other than that."
Madden said the 49ers-Packers match-ups are shaping into a nice rivalry. "It's not always the games within your division; you have to play in a bunch of big and meaningful games," Madden said. "I go back to when (the Raiders) played Pittsburgh. That wasn't a divisional thing, but it sure was a rivalry, (as was) the Miami Dolphins. Those were rivalries. And that's what San Francisco and Green Bay is right now."
