Daily Madden: Just How Good Are The Texans?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The 11-1 Houston Texans face the 9-3 Patriots in New England Monday night.
"Houston has the best record in the AFC, but I have a hard time believing or saying that they're the best team in the AFC," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "If you say 'well, if you don't think they're the best team, who do you think is the best team?' And I'd probably say the Patriots. So this is going to be an interesting one, it really is. (Houston's) record is there. They've only lost one game and they're really a good team, but are they the best team? I'm not sure of that."
With the San Diego Chargers out of the playoffs with a 4-8 record, there's talk head coach Norv Turner may lose his job.
"This is always a hard time for coaches who are having bad years," Madden said. "Everyone is speculating whether you're going to get fired or not, and there's not much feeling that go into those thoughts. I listen to some of these shows and watch these people (who say) 'Yeah, they ought to fire him, they ought to fire him.' These are people, these are human beings that have families. And when they fire them, they get rid of all the assistants who have families and lives and houses and all this stuff. And they just say it so easily, 'yeah, just get rid of them.'" (8:05)
