Daily Madden: It's Too Easy To Root Against The Dodgers
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The San Francisco Giants open a three game series against the struggling Dodgers in Los Angeles Monday night. The Dodgers are in last place in the National League West.
"You're kind of glad to see that, and not only because they're LA and the Dodgers," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning. With their high profile, high salary roster, the Dodgers were expected to contend for the pennant.
"I've always been one (to say) that you can't buy a team. You have to develop a team and coach it. When people go out there and spend a lot of money, you kind of root against them because it's kind of a bully mentality. In some ways, I don't think it's fair for them to do that, but they do... That's why I think I root against the Heat, for the same reason."
The NBA champion Heat were honored with a parade in Miami Monday.
Madden said the San Antonio Spurs' close loss in Game 6 of the seven game championship series sealed their fate.
"The Spurs had it," Madden said."All they had to do was make a free throw at the end there and they win the game. And they had a three point lead, and they didn't do it. Because of that, now they have to play the final game in Miami. It's just tough to come back from that. I know it's a psychological thing, and they're pros and they're older pros and it shouldn't affect them. But it was one of those things you could see coming, and then it came." (8:25)
