Daily Madden: Hard To Predict What NBA Owners Will Do Next In Donald Sterling Case
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Now that the NBA has banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling from attending games and participating in league activities for life, the focus moves to whether he'll be forced to sell the team.
"When I saw that press conference, those were my two thoughts. It's harsh and it's quick," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "I'm not sure they know what they can do now... At some point we know everything comes to money and everything comes to business. The Clippers with Donald Sterling as the owner has one value. The Clippers without Donald Sterling has another value I assume."
Madden said professional sports team owners are a unique group, and it's difficult to predict what will happen next. "They're the only guys in any organization in pro sports that to get in they don't need any experience, and therein lies the problem," Madden said.
"Usually they're experienced businessmen that made money somehow. But they don't know anything about the sport. And ultimately and eventually, they're running the sport. So this isn't an easy thing to deal with."
