Daily Madden: It's About Time The Browns Bring Back Jim Brown
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Cleveland Browns have scheduled a Wednesday news conference to announce a new role on the team for 77-year-old Jim Brown, the greatest player in franchise history.
"I've always said that, in football, we really don't have 'the guy,'" John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew, noting Brown's contributions go beyond the one team. "(Baseball has) Jackie Robinson - number 42, Ted Williams at the All Star game when all the players come out, you know, talking about all the names they have and traditions. Probably the closest thing we have in pro football is Jim Brown, and that's why he has to be a part of that."
Fox Sports is investigating why a cable supporting an overhead camera broke during the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Sunday. 10 people were treated for minor injuries. NASCAR officials said they'll await the results of the review before deciding whether to continue to allow overhead cameras.
"It took a long time for the NFL to okay that sky cam (as) they call it," Madden said, "because there have been some instances when it's come down."
The NFL limits the overhead camera's movement.
"In football, it always has to be behind (the action), so it could never fall on a player - the only way probably (would be) on an interception or something." (7:40)
