Daily Madden: Is Mickelson's Game On The Rise?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Phil Mickelson said it was the best closing round of his career -- his five under par 66 that gave him his first British Open title. At age 43, and already considered one of golf's all-time greats, is Mickelson getting better?
"He's getting calmer," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning. "As you lose some strength, I think you have to find some other ways to do things... That's really true in baseball with pitchers. If all they have is speed and then they lose the speed, they're done. But if they're complete and have a lot of other things, they can just go to those other things. I think there's a little of that in Mickelson."

Part of that is you think you're working out (in off-season)," Madden said. "Then you put the pads on and it's a real go, and you go another step higher... They get hurt in these early games and these early practices because you really don't practice on your own the way you practice and/or play with the team." (6:30)
