Daily Madden: End Of The Line For Hines Ward?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing 14-year star receiver Hines Ward, who holds franchise records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.
"Hines Ward was one of my favorite guys," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "He's one of the toughest... one of those offensive guys that when there's a breakaway play, you have to keep your head on a swivel because Hines is going to come after you. There are not a lot of wide receivers that do that."
The 35-year-old Ward said he isn't finished, and will return to the NFL next fall with another team. Madden said there may be a place for him.
"He's a good team guy," Madden said. "I think his days as a starter and his days as being Hines Ward as we all knew him, I think those days are over... (but) still being a contributor I think would be a possibility... He'd be upset about it, but he'd do it, because he loves to play." (8:05)
