Daily Madden: Ichiro's Long Stay In Seattle Is Over
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - After spending his entire major league career with the Mariners, 10-time All-Star outfielder Ichiro Suzuki was traded to the New York Yankees Monday.
"I kind of go back to the old days when everyone just played for one team," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "It was great for the fans... They knew every player on every team." John said he was disappointed when long-time fan favorite started moving to other teams. "The first time that really hit me in football was when Reggie White went to Green Bay and then later when Joe Montana went to Kansas City."
In a radio interview, Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan accused slumping star outfielder Josh Hamilton of 'giving away at-bats.' Madden said it's the mark of a pro to be able to stay focused on every play every day. "If it were easy everyone would do it. It's not easy and you have to be able to psych yourself, to get ready... He's a real pro (if) no matter how he feels or what he's doing, he can play his best." (7:40)
