Daily Madden: How Chip Kelly Is Reshaping The Eagles

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon. John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew the move is part of new coach Chip Kelly's plan to reshape the Eagles offense.

"(Kelly) brought a lot of assistants from Oregon to the Eagles to kind of show the assistant coaches and other players what he wants," Madden said. "It's not only the plays that he puts in and the offense, but the way you practice and the tempo and all these things."

Dixon isn't expected to be the starting QB, but Madden said he can help Kelly prepare the team.

"He knows how to practice. He knows what they're looking for, and (can help) if guys have questions," said Madden.

The former coach hops on the Madden Cruiser Friday night, headed for the NFL meetings and combine in Indianapolis next week.

"I do more of the meetings than I do anything with watching players," Madden said. "There's nothing really new in rules that I see. The biggest thing that you can tell just by the talk is safety. Anything that can improve safety will be talked about, and that's at the top of every list." (9:15)
