Daily Madden: Highs And Lows Of John's NFL Week
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden toured several NFL training camps on the Madden Cruiser with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell before attending the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton over the weekend.
"(Goodell) comes on the bus and he's just a regular guy and complains about how cold it is just like everyone else," Madden told the KCBS morning crew Monday.
"He would talk to selected players and he had fan forums where he had question and answer things with the fans, and then he had to sit on the bus and listen to my baloney for five or six hours at a time... To have a training camp tour followed by a Hall of Fame weekend, it doesn't get any better than that."
Then came word Sunday of the sudden death of Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid. "That was really tough," John said. "Andy Reid is one of the great guys in the NFL and one of my best friends, and it was a shock to wake up and hear that." Garrett Reid died in his room at the Eagles' training camp at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was 29 years old. "Andy is a rock and a friend to all of us... You just hear something like that and you don't know how to act or react or where to go."
