Daily Madden: Hats Off To Clayton Kershaw; No-Hitter Even Giants Fan Should Admire
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- In a near perfect game, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw threw a no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies in a 8-0 win Wednesday night. "I've always respected him," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"He's a heck of a competitor. To be able to do things like that and keep it (going) throughout the game -- what did he have, 15 strikeouts?"
Kershaw missed a perfect game when Hanley Ramirez misfired on a throw to first base in the seventh inning. "If you knew (a near perfect game) was going to happen and you had to pick five guys that would be probable to do it, wouldn't you pick him?" Madden said.
The Dodgers win moved them to within four games of the first-place but struggling Giants. "You still have to respect greatness, even though he's on a competitive team with the Giants," Madden said.
"Even players on other teams that are competitive, even Giants players, are going to be thinking that was great. And if you see him, you're going to shake his hand and say congratulations. And you really mean it, I think."
