Daily Madden: Harbaugh Bounces Back At Pebble Beach
PEBBLE BEACH (KCBS) - A week after the 49ers Super Bowl loss, coach Jim Harbaugh made the cut in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
"He's amazing. He really has a good swing," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew after seeing Harbaugh at Pebble Beach. "For a guy that tried to play for years, I know how hard it is to play golf. And here he is, he played at Pebble a year ago, hadn't picked up clubs all year, and went out and played in that tournament, and really played well... in a highly competitive situation. I don't know how you try to do it. If I hadn't played in a year that would give me a good excuse not to do it."
Harbaugh and pro partner Jason Day finished tied for 13th in the pro-am competition. Madden saw another NFL coach play at Pebble Beach.
"The other guy that really surprised me even a little bit more than Harbaugh is (Patriots coach) Bill Belichick," he said. "Sometimes you feel he doesn't even have time to get dressed for the day."
Alameda's own James Hahn, who played at Cal and now lives in San Bruno, finished tied for third in the pro competition.
"He worked where I'm from," Madden said. "He sold shoes at Nordstroms in Pleasanton." (8:25)
