Daily Madden: Giant Decision On Belt; MLB Concussions
(KCBS) - The San Francisco Giants have a difficult decision on whether rookie first baseman Brandon Belt will join the team on Opening Day or be sent to Triple-A Fresno.
During his daily chat with the KCBS morning crew, John Madden said the Buster Posey blueprint - bringing a rookie sensation up at mid-year after some seasoning - worked well last year.
Madden agreed with the view that if Belt does make the team it would be as the starting first baseman, not as a bench warmer.
Madden also addressed new recommendations in dealing with concussions in Major League Baseball. It's an issue that all sports need to address, said Madden, and that leagues can share information with each other.
Madden noted one obstacle to improved safety is that players are too concerned about how they will look wearing new concussion safe equipment.
