Daily Madden: Fundamental Mistakes Nearly Cost Young Warriors
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Golden State Warriors went ahead by 18 points early in the fourth before holding off one final Denver Nuggets flurry in game six of their opening round series at Oracle Arena Thursday night. The team struggled with some of the small things late in the game, nearly costing them their chance to close out the 3rd seeded Nuggets.
"You know, just when you think they're going to run away with it and you kind of relax, isn't it funny how you get involved in these games and when they're this meaningful you really feel it? I felt that one," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
The Warriors seemed to have difficulty finding and making safe passes late in the 4th quarter, leading to turnovers that let Denver back in the game.
"I felt that it was in the can," Madden said. "And then you know, it goes right down to the wire and I was thinking that how long you play, at what level you play, how big the game is, it still boils down to fundamentals. You still have to practice fundamentals. You know, the Warriors were talking after the game how they're going to have to put some practice time in on bringing the ball inbounds."

"You think, of all the simple things, ok, we've got to play defense, we've got to shoot, and we need to three point and we need to do all this and that and then it boils down to we need to be able to get the ball inbounds," Madden said.
The Warriors will face San Antonio in the first game of their second-round series in San Antonio Monday.
