Daily Madden: Finally Some Excitement For Raider Fans
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Raiders held off a late charge by San Diego to win 27-17 in Oakland Sunday night.
"The Raiders look a lot better than they have to me for years," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "They have some life to them now. Maybe part of it is (quarterback Terrelle) Pryor. Part of it is (safety Charles) Woodson coming back. Part of it is some young energetic defensive players. They're pretty good, because San Diego really is a good foe."
Madden said Pryor deserves a lot of the credit.
"They always talk about leadership of a quarterback," Madden said. "It's not what they say or how they are in the locker room and all that stuff, it's what they do on the field. And Pryor started out (completing) his first ten passes... He was 10 for 10 and the Raiders started out 14-0. Then you just play the rest of the game, and you make San Diego play uphill."
Despite mediocre numbers posted by quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers dominated the Houston Texans at Candlestick Park Sunday night, winning 34-3.
"(The 49ers) are still trying to figure out who they are and what they are offensively," Madden said. "There are times I felt that they felt Kaepernick had to be too big a part. Then maybe in a game like last night they figure that he doesn't have to be a big part. I think they're going to settle in somewhere in between. The 49ers are still a running team, still a defensive team, and then you add some things that Kaepernick can do. I don't think that they want to start playing where their whole offense is Colin Kaepernick." (6:15)
