Daily Madden: Don't Jump To Conclusions In Kaepernick Case
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Miami police were investigating, but no crimes have been alleged in the incident involving 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a woman friend and two other NFL players.
"We don't know much about it, and the worst thing you can do is jump to conclusions one way or another," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Usually after you do something like that, then you have to go back and apologize for what you said."
The woman told police she blacked out and woke up in a hospital bed after drinking and smoking marijuana in an apartment with the three men. "I think it's just more difficult and more difficult with all this social media to wait and see what the real facts are, and then comment. And any commenting you do before you know the facts I don't think is smart."
Madden said in general, coaches can't micro-manage the off-season behavior of players. "At some point you have to say they're adults," he said. "These aren't seven-year-old kids that you have to control. These are men. At some point, they have to be able to control themselves... The season is over and they disperse, and you're not sure exactly what goes on. But you just hope they take the responsibility that they should."
