Daily Madden: Don't Encourage Training Camp Fights
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Two brawls broke out at the joint practice session between the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys in Ventura Tuesday.
"That stuff is going to happen, (but) you don't want to encourage it," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
No one was hurt, and Dallas owner Jerry Jones called it 'enthusiasm' and 'passion.'
"I think coaches are wrong to say 'I like to see that, it shows we're a passionate team,'" Madden said. "It doesn't show anything. I think it's something (where) you say 'Hey, let's knock that off. Let's not have any more of it.'"
Madden said there is a lot of value to the joint practice sessions, but they have to be managed properly.
"Once you go to training camp there are going to be fights all they time. There always have been. But you kind of have to watch it that you're not one of those teams that are going to go in to work with another team and have fights and illegal contact and all that stuff." (6:30)
